10 Years of Inspiration and Education:
Pendulum's education programs were first developed in 2000 through an “Artist in Residency” at Portland’s French American International School. Pendulum offers a positive environment to develop skills such as working with others, overcoming challenges, and placing ideas into a creative outlet.
Our educational programs engage children in the world of contemporary circus arts. Skills taught include: trapeze; acrobatics; aerial silks (tissu); flexibility; contortion; strength; juggling; unicycle; aerial hoop (lyra); aerial hammocks and more.
The programs Pendulum run include after-school programs, residencies, workshops, summer camps, an apprentice program, and professional level training for company members:
General Circus Classes provide a positive, challenging, and empowering experience for youth from ages 3 to 18. Focus is on safety, fun, proper technique, and creativity.
After school programs expose Portland area youth to various aerial and circus disciplines. Students from age 3 to 18 develop strength, coordination, flexibility, and creativity while gaining awareness of the performing arts.
The Summer Intensive workshop offers the budding artist two weeks of intensive aerial training (35 hours per week) taught by an acclaimed international coaching staff. The focus is on gaining skills, strength and poise in the air while having fun and culminates in a public performance of work developed during the workshop. Pendulum has been receiving students from across the country for its summer program since 2002.
The Apprentice Program is designed for students displaying great interest and potential in aerial arts. Apprentices receive approximately 20 hours of weekly training in various aerial disciplines, contortion, dance styles and acrobatics. Regular public performances, workshops, and collaboration with the Pendulum Company complement the program.
