DAWN – Artistic Director Suzanne Kenney fuses aerial ballet, acrobatics, and storytelling to transcend the boundaries of dance in DAWN. This new contemporary work is inspired primarily by the athleticism and idealism of her pre-professional youth company, the Pendulum Flyers, whose ambitions and dreams are focused towards the future. DAWN is a new artistic direction for Pendulum, centered on the relationship of youth to the evolving technologies and social conventions of the coming era. DAWN will be a journey through the waxing hours of the present day, a new beginning in search of freedom, unity and peace from life's chaos and limited boundaries.
The venue will be specially rigged for the performance, allowing the artists to utilize the space available above and around the audience to create an enveloping atmosphere. Video projection on the backdrop of the set will also be incorporated into the performance. Additional costuming will be provided by local designer Sandra Zodniks, and guest choreography for the show will be provided by long time collaborators Erika Gilfeather and Andrew Adams.
When the artist is also the art form, it is dance.
Mind and body giving meaning to movement.
Stretching the limits of time and space.
Defying even gravity, it would seem, to celebrate the human spirit.
